Curriculum

Prep School:

Epsom College’s School for their youngest pupils is called the Prep School and here they welcome learners aged 3-11 years old. Pupils are provided with outstanding learning experiences that lead to consistently high levels of achievement.

Pupils are encouraged to develop academically, socially and personally. Epsom College’s rich and varied curriculum, based on the UK’s National Curriculum, ensures a solid foundation for entry to Senior School.

There is an opportunity to learn a European language as part of the extensive co-curricular programme.

In addition to the subjects studied within the Prep School, all pupils explore and pursue areas of interest as Co-Curricular Activities. During these extra-curricular sessions pupils utilise the world class facilities available at Epsom College to engage in sporting activities and the Creative Arts.

Every pupil is assigned to a House in order to ensure that they are fully integrated into the life and community of our College and to smooth their transition to the Senior School.

Epsom welcomes learners from across Asia. Their small class sizes ensure that every individual’s learning needs are met in addition to rapid improvement in English proficiency through our EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme.

Senior School:

Year 7-9 (Key Stage 3)  we develop your child’s natural talents and encourage them to explore the broad range of academic and co-curricular activities that are on offer.

Lessons are delivered in small class sizes so that we can focus on every individuals’ needs.

We ensure that our pupils are able to make well-informed and appropriate choices for IGCSE at the end of this Key Stage through our orientation sessions that take place in the January of Year 9.

The Key Stage 3 programme provides a solid foundation on which to build at Key Stage 4, when pupils begin to study for IGCSE. Our curriculum develops pupils’ abilities to absorb, discern and assimilate knowledge, to make connections between subjects and across the broad curriculum we offer.

All pupils have lessons in: English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, Physical Education, Computer Science, Art, Speech Drama and Theatre, Spanish, French, Mandarin, History, Information Skills, Physical Education.

For those pupils joining us with little English, high quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons will be delivered by our team of experienced and dedicated teachers to ensure that pupils progress quickly and can fully engage with our College community both in and outside the classroom.

Pupils at Key Stage 3 are able to explore a vast array of co-curricular opportunities to broaden their horizons. From martial arts to debating; from the rugby pitch to the swimming pool, our pupils will experience the expertise of highly skilled professionals within and beyond the Epsom community.

Year 10 and Year 11

(Key Stage 4) are an important time for all pupils at Epsom. A number of young people will join our community from schools across Asia, while others will move up from Key Stage 3. Those new to the College will receive a warm welcome and we do all that we can to ensure that they settle quickly into our Epsom family.

For those requiring additional support with their English, Epsom College in Malaysia provides EAL (English as an Additional Language) lessons that are tailored to the needs of the individual and are delivered in small groups. Pupils progress quickly and are soon able to access mainstream lessons.

Every student will have a personal tutor with whom they will meet regularly to discuss any issues that may arise and to monitor academic progress.

The focus of Key Stage 4 is IGCSE. Lessons are delivered in small groups by dedicated and committed subject specialists who will work closely with your child to ensure the best possible outcomes.

The excellent pastoral care and extra-curricular provision continues at Key Stage 4. Pupils will continue to benefit from co-curricular activities that present them with challenges beyond the classroom. They complete this Key Stage having developed academically, personally, and socially ready to embrace the next stage of their academic career.
